Here’s what happens. The folds of your tonsils can trap dead cells, mucus, and even little bits of food. These harden into little white lumps, called tonsil stones or tonsilloliths. You’re more likely to get them if you have larger tonsils, or if you’ve recently suffered from tonsillitis.

Bacteria can grow on the tonsil stones, giving you bad breath. It’s fine to try to take them out with your finger, or gargling with salt water might help. Check out the full video for more!
